What Is PalKids Theory?

“PalKids theory” does not refer to one single standalone theory. Rather, it describes the overall set of ideas PalKids relies on when designing its materials and programs. It is made up of four perspectives: “Home English” as a practical framework for families, “PalKids” as the program that systematizes that framework, the “mechanisms of language acquisition” that form its foundation, and “core thinking skills” (cognitive, non-cognitive, and metacognitive abilities) that support learning.

These are not separate theories, but one connected way of thinking. At the foundation is the general mechanism by which children acquire language. “Home English” is the approach for putting that understanding into practice at home, and “PalKids” is the program that organizes that practice according to a child’s age and developmental stage. “Core thinking skills” addresses the cognitive, non-cognitive, and metacognitive abilities that support that learning.

The Foundation of PalKids Theory

We value being able to explain, through the theories of language acquisition and cognitive development, why this material should be used at this age and in this way.
